Wool processing has been a trade in Mosfellsbaer, Iceland since 1896. Previously named Álafoss of Iceland, this company became Ístex in 1991. Ístex stands for Íslenskur Textiliðnaður, which is Icelandic for 'Textile Industry'.
Ístex produces and sells the famous Alafosslopi and other Lopi yarns for hand knitting such as Plötulopi, Bulkylopi and Léttlopi. They are manufacturers of industrial yarns for knitting, weaving and carpet manufacturing. All their products are made out of high quality Icelandic wool.
Ístex buys wool directly from the farmers of Iceland and then transforms it into yarn. The wool scouring process happens in Blönduós, in the north of the country, and our spinning mill is in the town of Mosfellsbaer, nearby to Reykjavik.
Ístex products are sold all over the world and are famous for their durability, colours and quality.
